Camp Miakonda moves activities indoors amid air quality concerns

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Camp Miakonda relocated all activities indoors Thursday after dangerous air quality conditions prompted staff to change plans.

The camp, which runs for five sessions each summer, typically offers swimming, archery and outdoor activities. When air quality deteriorated, staff notified parents early and shifted campers inside.

“At 6:38 this morning, I had that first email going out to parents of campers saying, this is our plan,” said Ellen Watkins, Camp Miakonda’s day camp director. “We are making sure that all of our campers are staying inside in air conditioning as much as possible. We provided face masks to all campers and staff, so if they wanted to wear those, they could.”
