COLUMBUS — Ohio freshman Rep. Michele Grim (D., Toledo) on Tuesday was elected by fellow House Democrats as minority assistant whip of their caucus.
She replaces former Rep. Tavia Galonski (D., Akron), who recently resigned her House seat. Assistant whip is the fourth-highest leadership post within the minority.
Ms. Grim will be sworn into her new post when the House returns to Columbus on Feb. 7.
“A strong advocate for the people of Ohio’s 43rd House District, Rep. Grim has been a champion on issues such as workers’ rights, free feminine hygiene products in schools, expanding access to healthcare, and protecting public education,” Minority Leader Allison Russo (D., Upper Arlington) said.
“I am confident that she will be a valuable asset to our leadership team, the Ohio House Democratic Caucus, and to the State of Ohio, she said.
Ms. Grim becomes the third representing northwest Ohio in House leadership. Rep. Jon Cross (R., Findlay) is the number-four Republican, assistant majority floor leader, and Rep. Jim Hoops (R., Napoleon), is number five, majority whip.
