DUNDEE — Ohio police on Thursday arrested a Milan man who officers say was driving a rental moving truck as he led a pursuit that started in Dundee.
The Dundee Police Department reported in a Facebook post that Officer Joseph Ashley attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at 9 p.m. on Outer Drive near Tecumseh Street. After the vehicle, a 2019 Chevrolet U-Haul, initially pulled into the American Inn & Suites Hotel parking lot, the vehicle’s driver circled around, failed to stop and fled onto Outer Drive.
The vehicle continued south on Outer, west on Plank Street, and south on Carney Drive to westbound on Riley Street and Brewer Road in excess of 45 mph through the village, the post said. The vehicle continued into Lenawee County before turning south on Bucholtz Highway and heading into Deerfield. The suspect driver then headed east on River Street, south on Rodesiler Highway and County Line Highway to southbound U.S. 223 and southbound U.S. 23, maintaining speeds in excess of 72 mph. Units from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police assisted as the pursuit continued. The sheriff’s office successfully deployed tire-deflation devices on southbound U.S. 23 at Sterns Road. However, the fleeing vehicle was able to continue into Ohio, exiting at Alexis Road in Sylvania. The suspect vehicle traveled eastbound on Alexis to the intersection with Waterford Place. The driver ran from the vehicle, leaving a woman passenger in the vehicle.
