Reversing roundabout: Perrysburg Council will consider ‘signalized intersection’ instead

Perrysburg City Council will be asked to consider a signalized intersection at Front Street and U.S. Rt. 20 instead of a roundabout, which has been roundly panned by neighbors.

“We’re proposing that we move from a roundabout to a signalized intersection,” said Joe Fawcett, Perrysburg administrator this week.

The change is because of new traffic counts now that Maumee’s Conant Street project has been completed, he said.

“The benefits of having a roundabout weren’t as great as they were initially,” Mr. Fawcett said. “The signalized intersection meets the goals of the original study, which was to improve safety in the intersection and improve the access to the wastewater treatment plant and Orleans Park.”

The new intersection would include an extension of West Boundary Street down to the wastewater treatment plant, Mr. Fawcett said. This would also become the main entrance drive to Orleans Park, which is on the Maumee River.

The existing Orleans Park entrance would be converted to a right-in, right-out access drive. An enhanced pedestrian crosswalk beacon, with lights requiring drivers to stop when someone is using it, would be installed here, Mr. Fawcett said.
