Resurfacing projects at two Toledo-area locations and completion of pavement replacement associated with a new Williams County toll plaza are part of a $254 million Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission capital program planned for the upcoming construction season.
The construction announcement coincided with a report that the Ohio Turnpike handled record traffic during 2023, with all vehicles traveling a total of 3,131,669,772 miles, or 2.2 percent more than in 2022. Truck traffic, however, declined for the year.
A 10-mile repaving section in Wood County stretching east from Milepost 64 at the I-75 interchange in Rossford past the I-280/State Rt. 420 interchange in Lake Township will include a deck overlay for the bridge over I-280.
In Lucas County, the turnpike will resurface a four-mile section between Mileposts 51 and 55, near and east of Exit 52 at Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport.
The work near the new Westgate plaza in western Williams County, meanwhile, will wrap up pavement replacement on the turnpike’s west end as well as cover removal of the old Westgate structure.
