Victim of South End shooting Sept. 3 was alleged gunman’s girlfriend, prosecutor says

The woman a teenager is accused of fatally shooting four months ago in South Toledo was the boy’s girlfriend and was present at an argument in which he was engaged, a prosecutor said during the boy’s arraignment for murder Thursday.

Nathan Mays, 17, is also charged with second-degree felonious assault and firing on or near prohibited premises in the Sept. 3 death of Jaelynn Poturalski, 18, who police found in the 200 block of Langdon Street after receiving a shooting call about 10:40 a.m.

Young Mays was initially charged in Lucas County Juvenile Court, but from there, the case was bound over to Lucas County Common Pleas Court, and he was indicted last week.

In asking for a $1.1 million bond, Jennifer Worley, an assistant Lucas County prosecutor, told Judge Dean Mandros that police had already been sent to the Langdon Street location once to break up an argument there involving adults that had begun the day before with a dispute between some 6-year-old children, and they had arrested another person for disorderly conduct.
