TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Crime was down in Toledo last year across many categories and Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said that’s because the police force is growing. Even though the Toledo Police Department grew from 580 people in 2018 to 625 people in 2023, at a City Budget Meeting on Feb. 1, Toledo Police Chief Mike Troendle announced the police academy size will decrease this year.
