A major South Toledo intersection is expected to reopen Thursday following waterline construction, a city spokesman said.
Except for right turns on the corner’s west side, South Avenue and Broadway Street closed at their intersection Jan. 22 as part of longer-term work to replace a water main along Broadway.
The intersection was scheduled to reopen late last week, but that was delayed with no reason given. The start of construction within the intersection coincided with snowy and very cold weather in Toledo.
Shawn Comes, a spokesman for the Toledo Department of Transportation, said that after the streets’ reopening, traffic on Broadway would revert to its previous set-up, with a single lane available for southbound traffic while northbound traffic is completely blocked at Stebbins Street.
Work along Broadway began between Newbury Street and Walbridge Avenue in early November. Officials said at the time that northbound traffic would be detoured via Glendale Avenue, the Anthony Wayne Trail, and Western Avenue for three months, starting Nov. 6. The detour was not set up, however, until more than a week later.
