Dearryl Cornelious, 21, was found guilty Friday of all charges encompassing the death of a 10-year-old girl, the shooting of her uncle, and attempted shooting of her younger brother.
All of the jurors in Lucas County Common Pleas Court agreed that Cornelious had committed his crimes as part of criminal gang activity that had occurred on Collingwood Boulevard near Delaware Avenue in the early afternoon of Feb. 13, 2022.
They also agreed that Cornelious had been in possession of a firearm and fired from a motor vehicle. That vehicle was identified as a Dodge Charger. The car, impounded a week after the shootings when the driver stopped on I-475 in Springfield Township and fled unsuccessfully on foot, had silver spray paint on parts of its roof, hood, and fenders that appeared fresh and hastily applied, Toledo police Sgt. Roy Kennedy testified during the trial.
Cornelious was charged with the aggravated murder of Da’Mia Ezell, and attempt to commit aggravated murder and felonious assault of her uncle Kenneth White, who survived being shot 11 times. He also was found guilty of the felonious assault of Xavier Ezell, Da’Mia’s brother, who was 8 at the time.
