Toledo Jeep temp workers start getting robocalls about moving to full-time employment

Some Toledo Jeep workers who work on a lower-wage supplemental status started getting robocalls from Stellantis on Friday saying they would soon be converted to full-time wages and benefits.

Some 900 of the supplemental workers, also called temps, are expected to get converted to full-time in the coming days. But Stellantis and the United Auto Workers have not provided specifics — including how many will be required to work in at facilities in Detroit, or whether some supplemental workers beyond the 900 will be laid off.

“You will receive additional information by Feb. 16 including your conversion date, placement information, and and reporting instructions from local human resources. Congratulations on your promotion to a full-time position,” the call said, in part. “Please note that some employees will convert in place at their current location and be moved to a new location at a later date.”

Jeep employees and local UAW officials have heard conflicting information about how many of the converted employees will be able to stay in Toledo. One report suggested only 224 will remain at the plant. A Stellantis spokesman did not respond to a request for an update Friday afternoon.
