The Neighborhood Health Association is set to open an apothecary pharmacy in Hensville in December.
Like apothecaries of the past, the pharmacy at 12 N. St. Clair St. will have an old-time feel, featuring a full-service pharmacy with a soda fountain and ice cream.
The new pharmacy is part of an effort by the city of Toledo to revitalize and bring more business to the Warehouse District, said Shane Douglas, chief operating officer for Neighborhood Health Association.
“With the city’s plan to bring 10,000 people into the inner city of Toledo, we saw a need for both a pharmacy and some medical offices as well as an opportunity for an experience with the cafe and ice cream scoop shops,” Mr. Douglas said.
Doni Miller, chief executive officer of NHA, said the pharmacy is good for downtown because of its diversity of cultures and economic backgrounds.
“This is one of the most diverse and economically diverse neighborhoods in the city,” Ms. Miller said. “We have folks who absolutely can afford to manage their lives within an economic structure that makes sense to them. Then we have folks, if you go to blocks toward the city, who are really struggling. Our business allows both those folks access to medications in a way that they can afford them.”
