Police change report on wrong-way crash on I-280

After further investigation, Toledo Police have reversed their initial findings concerning a fatal wrong-way crash last week.

The March 27 crash occurred on the north end of the Veterans’ Glass City Skyway.

Jacob Twietmeyer, 25, of Sylvania, was traveling northbound on I-280 approaching the Greenbelt Parkway exit ramp. Ellis Monhollen, 80, of Toledo, was traveling the wrong way on the same exit ramp and entered northbound I-280 traveling southbound.

Mr. Twietmeyer and Monhollen crashed on I-280. Mr. Twietmeyer’s vehicle came to a rest next to the outer wall, while Monhollen’s came to a rest next to the center median wall. Both parties were transported to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center. Monhollen, who was extricated from his vehicle, later died at the hospital.

The initial report released by police identified Mr. Twietmeyer as the wrong-way driver, however further investigation has determined Monhollen was the wrong-way driver, according to Lt. Paul Davis, public information officer with Toledo Police.
