Third defendant from Valentine’s Day robbery is sent to prison

The last of three people convicted of robbing a couple who were leaving a Franklin Park Mall restaurant during a Valentine’s Day, 2023 date has been sentenced to prison.

Gary Devault, 18, of the 2000 block of Albion Street, entered an Alford plea to robbery in the case and was sentenced to four years in state prison Dec. 19, but that sentence did not become official until Thursday after it had been sent back to juvenile court for review. Such review is required when a juvenile whose case is bound over to adult court is convicted of a reduced charge.

Marques Reasonover, 20, of the 1700 block of Evensdale Avenue, Marvin Lee Burwell, 21, of the 800 block of Underwood Avenue, and Devault were all charged with aggravated robbery following the gunpoint robbery in the mall parking lot outside the Bravo Italian restaurant. The male victim suffered a shoulder injury during a tussle with the suspects, police said.

Reasonover and Burwell entered Alford pleas and were both sentenced Jan. 31 to six years in prison. Under an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but concedes that evidence exists that could result in a conviction if the case were taken to trial.
