WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP — An arrest was made at Whiteford Agricultural Schools involving the threat of gun violence.
Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported in a recent release that on Saturday, Sept. 7, shortly after noon, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by school officials from the school. They had been alerted to a threat of gun violence planned against the school for Monday, Sept. 9 by a parent of one of their students. The threat had been disseminated via a group text message chat session involving students at the school.
Sheriff Deputies conducted an investigation and discovered the threat was made by a 15-year-old female from Temperance, Michigan. Contact was made with the juvenile suspect and her parents.
As a result of the investigation, the subject was lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center and a small caliber bolt-action rifle was seized from the residence.
As a precaution, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office will provide additional staff during the school day on Monday, Sept. 9.
