Donation truck in Monroe to collect supplies for Hurricane Helene victims

MONROE Throughout late September, Hurricane Helene ravaged the east coast of the United States. Now, Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall in Florida soon, causing even more damage. Though this looks bleak, Monroe County citizens are finding ways to help.

For example, Deb Staelgraeve, owner of Deb’s Floral Designs LLC, and Tino Amaya, owner of Amaya’s Fresh Mexican Grill, teamed up to set up a donation drive, using a semi-truck donated by Joe Johnson of Dynamic Transportation. From Tuesday, Oct. 8, to Friday, Oct. 11, they’ll be taking donations to fill up the truck with as much supplies as they can for those affected by Hurricane Helene.

“If you want to really get connected, if you want to do something special for other people, man, just show up,” Amaya said on a livestream Saturday, Oct. 5.

The two are looking for non-perishable items, meaning some clothes, food, first aid supplies, hygiene necessities, and other amenities like lighters, can openers, brooms, and similar items.
