MONROE TWP. — A forum for candidates running for Monroe Township trustee will take place Oct. 16 in the second floor meeting room at the Michigan Wine and Beer Portal, 8 N. Monroe St. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the forum at 6:30. The public is welcome; space is limited.
According to the Monroe County Clerk’s office, four trustee seats are open for the Nov. 5 election. Five people have filed to run:
- Mary C. Gantzos, Democrat, Monroe
- Cole McNew, Democrat, Monroe
- William Heck Jr., Republican, Monroe
- Brian S. Merkle, Republican, Monroe
- Kevin Raymo, Republican, Monroe
Each candidate will have five minutes to deliver an opening statement on his/her vision and goals for the township.

A one-hour, moderated discussion will follow. Questions will cover key issues and topics within the township, said forum organizers. Discussion host will be Donald Spencer, Monroe Township resident and retired Monroe County Intermediate School District superintendent.
