ADRIAN — For the 10th anniversary of having a Community Christmas Tree at the old Lenawee County Courthouse, organizers found the “largest, fullest tree we’ve had yet.”
In fact, Jim Berryman, who’s coordinated the Adrian/Lenawee County Community Christmas Tree effort since its inception, said he would put it up against the 66-foot Christmas tree at Detroit’s Campus Martius , though he was coy about the height of the Norway spruce that was donated by the Ball family in Madison Township.
“I think I’m going to give Mayor (Mike) Duggan a call in Detroit,” he said Thursday as a Consumers Energy crew worked to secure the tree in the lawn. “They had an article that said they had tallest tree in the country. I’m going to say, ‘Well, you ought to send someone over to Lenawee County and look at our tree.’
“If it’s not the tallest, it’s the nicest-looking one in the country.”
This year’s tree was donated by the Ball family in Madison Township. Berryman was scouting for trees and looked at some behind Teresa Ball’s home. Brad Ball said they used to have a Christmas tree farm, and Berryman had asked to see what they had left. When Berryman asked about the one by the road, Brad checked with Teresa.
