Frenchtown Township celebrates new municipal building

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP On Thursday, Dec. 5, a crowd of Frenchtown Charter Township residents and elected officials gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the township’s new municipal building. The building serves two functions: half of it is a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office substation and the other is the township Resort District Authority.

The new building, which took over a year to complete, was built in part to replace the previous Sheriff’s Office substation, which was over 100 years old and too small to accommodate the 16 officers that will occupy the station. According to David Uhl, the township’s economic development director, the old building will be demolished and the three lots on the property sold off.

The other half, controlled by the township’s Resort District Authority, includes an event center that can cater to all kinds of parties and gatherings.

“They’re already booking things,” Uhl said. “They’ve already booked a wedding for next summer. They have a Bob Seger tribute band for the community it’s going to be a free event.”
