Ability Center executive director resigns

The head of a nonprofit that promotes inclusivity locally has resigned “due to a misalignment with the board of directors,” the agency said.

The Ability Center’s board of directors on Tuesday announced the resignation of Stuart James as its executive director for that reason and “after thoughtful consideration.”

“Stuart remains deeply committed to the mission of The Ability Center and continues to believe in the remarkable work of our staff and organization,” the statement said. “We are profoundly grateful for Stuart’s leadership and the significant contributions he has made to our community.”

While the agency looks for a new executive director, Ash Lemons, associate director, will serve as interim executive director.

“I am deeply humbled to step in as interim executive director of The Ability Center,” said Ash Lemons. “Having been part of this incredible organization for 22 years, I have immense respect for our staff, board, auxiliary, consumers, donors, volunteers, and community partners. Together, we will ensure a seamless transition and continue advancing our vital mission.”
