Outpatient pediatric behavioral health facility opens in West Toledo

Northwest Ohio families with children who require intensive outpatient treatment for mental and behavioral issues now don’t have to drive to Akron, Dayton, or Cincinnati for care.

Those services are about to be provided locally at ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital’s new outpatient pediatric behavioral health facility, which is opening in West Toledo.

“We’ve never done an intensive outpatient program before,” said Paula Grieb, ProMedica’s chief nursing officer and chief operating officer. “Our goal is to have three groups of 10 running continuously throughout the year for patients under the age of 18.”

Ms. Grieb spoke during an open house Wednesday celebrating the new pediatric health pavilion.

Children who need more intensive therapy than they can get by seeing a therapist once a month, will be able to go for three hours a day, three days a week, for five weeks, said Mystel Aldrich, a ProMedica nursing practice specialist and office manager.

“We would be filling a gap in services,” Ms. Aldrich said. “That would be that middle ground of where they’re getting that intensive outpatient programming so that they hopefully don’t have to go inpatient.”
