Northwood again files suit over nuisances at former Great Eastern Shopping Center

The City of Northwood is again taking the owner of a declining shopping center to court.

A lawsuit against Northwood Dhaliwal Plaza, LLC, formerly known as Great Eastern Shopping Center, on Woodville Road, was filed last month.

“We have submitted the case to Wood County Court of Common Pleas. It’s working its way through there now,” said Kevin Laughlin, Northwood administrator.

The city is asking for immediate repairs and for a construction and financing plan to be filed.

“At the very least we want to see continued improvement,” Mr. Laughlin said. “The city understands that these things take time, but it’s getting to the point — especially with residents — how long? The situation continues to deteriorate.”

Wood County land records show Northwood Dhaliwal Plaza, based in Upper Darby, Pa., purchased the properties at 2500, 2534, and 2680 Woodville Rd. for $2.2 million on Dec. 6, 2022.

Owner Amrit Dhaliwal told The Blade in April she had great plans for the site, including a banquet center, bowling center, and arcade.
