A Perrysburg High School teacher accused of having had an “inappropriate relationship” with a female student more than 25 years ago has resigned.
John Henline, a health and physical education teacher, and the school’s assistant athletic director, submitted his resignation Dec. 16, according to school officials. According to his LinkedIn profile, Mr. Henline has been with the school system since August, 1995, when he was hired as a health and physical education teacher. He was named assistant athletic director in October, 2013.
“At the time of his resignation, the district was investigating a complaint against Mr. Henline. To ensure a thorough and impartial review of the allegations, the school district retained legal counsel to assist with the investigation,” school officials said in a statement.
Officials said that Mr. Henline is on leave through mid-February, when he intends to retire.
The school district also informed the Office of Professional Conduct that Mr. Henline “submitted his resignation during the course of an investigation into alleged conduct unbecoming. More specifically, the District received a report that Mr. Henline may have had an inappropriate relationship with a female student in the late 1990s, during his first years of employment with the District. It was during the course of the District’s investigation into this report that Mr. Henline resigned.”
