Editor’s Note: A group of local citizens have joined together to form Citizens to Save Our School, a collaborative initiative to halt the demolition of the Oak Harbor Middle School. The Benton-Carroll-Salem (B-C-S) School Board voted to demolish the school building earlier this year, and the board secured a grant through the Ohio Department of Development’s Brownfield Remediation Program to fund asbestos abatement in the building. The grant will fund a minimum of $500,000 of the estimated $1 million demolition cost.
