Falcon Food Pantry takes flight at BGSU, serving 1,300 a month

BOWLING GREEN — The Falcon Food Pantry offers the Bowling Green State University community food for the soul and the stomach.

Shannon Orr, director of the food pantry, which operates in Central Hall on the main part of campus, said the pantry has doubled in size since it opened in 2022.

“I’ve been here 20 years and seeing the challenges that our students go through — life gets tough sometimes,” said Ms. Orr, who is also a political science professor. “BGSU does such a great job of supporting students, and this was a piece that we were missing.”

BGSU students, faculty, and staff are welcome to stop by once a week to select a bag of food and hygiene items.

On the last day of finals before the holiday break, dozens of students were patronizing the pantry, taking boxes of cereal, cans of beans, and bottles of hand sanitizer. Christmas carols played in the background and, as the shelves were emptied, volunteers swooped in with more food to stock.

The stiff cold wind and 20-degree temperatures weren’t keeping anyone away.
