KALAMAZOO — The first game of the Mid-American Conference schedule was more of the same for the Toledo Rockets.
Not a recent spate of losing — the four years of dominance over the rest of the conference.
UT entered Saturday with a three-game losing streak and five losses in its past six games. The Rockets left University Arena with a 76-70 win over Western Michigan and a 1-0 record in the MAC.
Neither team shot 40 percent in the 40-minute rockfight.
On the day Toledo had one of its best defensive performances of the season, it struggled at the other end of the court. The Rockets left the Broncos confounded all game, leading to 34 percent shooting and a 7 of 27 mark from 3-point range. However, it was difficult for UT to separate because it shot just 39 percent and went 7 of 28 from long range.
Sonny Wilson scored a team-high 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while the rest of the Rockets were a combined 18 of 53.
Sam Lewis had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots, and Andre Lorentsson scored 10 points.
