Beer yoga aims to quell whatever ales you

Following a 5,000-year tradition, yoga gets a new toast at Buffalo Rock Brewing in Oregon.

Bayside, which opened in October, has joined an exclusive circuit that combines brews with deep breaths.

Eighteen guests gathered Saturday morning for a beer yoga session with Courtney Wolfe, of Transient Yoga. It is a moment of liberation and libation as a successful bridge pose is rewarded with a swig of booze.

“These yoga events are not about striving to reach a certain goal,” Ms. Wolfe said. “We all come from different backgrounds and walks of life and just happen to come together in community, sharing a fun yoga experience and supporting local business.”

In reality, the beer is not mandatory, and participants sip as they please. The yoga session with a beer is $10. It is the combination of bar, beer, and focus that leads to community.

While many of the participants are regular inhabitants of yoga studios, Caris Rockey, of Oregon, dedicates herself to beer yoga only. She highly recommends the Bridge Over Rushing Water Mocha Java Breakfast Stout offered at Buffalo Rock Brewing as an excellent accompaniment to morning sessions.
