Ditch assessment appeals ongoing, separate from upcoming hearing, engineer says

Notices have gone out to residents of the Tenmile Creek watershed advising them of the March resumption of the Board of Lucas County Commissioners’ formal hearing regarding ditch improvements in that basin.

The March 11 hearing in the commissioners’ hearing room at One Government Center will not include appeals of individual landowners’ ditch-improvement assessments, as that is a separate proceeding, said Lucas County Engineer Mike Pniewski.

But anyone who wishes to comment on the project’s overall necessity, public benefit, or cost will have a chance to address the commissioners before they vote on it, Mr. Pniewski said.

The hearing will start at 2 p.m. and may be continued to March 18 at 2 p.m. and again to March 25 at 2:30 p.m. if the commissioners deem additional sessions necessary.

A distinct hearing relating to a separate ditch-improvement campaign in the Swan Creek watershed will resume later in the year, and as has been done now with Tenmile, advance notice in compliance with state law will be provided.
