The embattled Maumee administrator is calling for cooler heads to prevail, as an effort to recall the mayor and six councilmen continues.
Patrick Burtch also said during Monday’s city council meeting that he is being threatened at his home.
“Some of the comments on Facebook that I get, some of the threats I get, some of the calls I get, some of the people driving by my house, calling me names, throwing stuff in my yard, that is ridiculous,” he said. “Somebody’s going to get hurt.”
On Sunday night at 8, someone came to his door, Mr. Burtch said.
“My wife and I didn’t want to answer the door. We were afraid that someone was on the other side of that with a gun. This is how bad it’s getting. My kids are being followed,” he said. “I’m being followed. I have somebody following me.”
He said no one should be subjected to this kind of vitriol and hate.
“Enough, enough,” Mr. Burtch said.
The recall effort is also targeting Mr. Burtch. A new council and mayor would presumably fire him.
It would cost the city $625,000 a year to hire three people to do all the jobs that he is responsible for, Mr. Burtch said. He also has 260 severance day pays in his contract. He was hired in 2020 with a contract providing for a $145,000 annual salary plus benefits.
