The “Waste Not, Wag a Lot” program was launched at Bowling Green State University’s Thanksgiving celebration. It diverts food waste from the landfill and makes dog treats for the Wood County Dog Shelter.
Employees at the Social House, a BGSU dining hall, have a separate bin to put food scraps. Sustainability interns ensure the food is nontoxic to dogs, then they are baked into treats.
“We have about six to eight recipes,” said Job Zachrich, the Director of Communications for BGSU Dining. “And they’ve all been tested with vet support and culinary testing of other dogs.”…
