Monroe officer fatally shoots dog that ‘aggressively charged’; owner of dog then cited, arrested

MONROE, Mich — A Monroe police officer searching for a runaway child Thursday afternoon fatally shot a person’s dog that “aggressively charged” him, according to a press release from the city’s public safety department.

The person, who is described as “transient,” was later arrested on warrants issued by other area police departments and cited for “dog running at large” because the animal was not licensed nor leashed, the Monroe Public Safety Department posted on social media.

Officers were called to an area school for a reported runaway 12-year-old, according to the department. The 12-year-old was eventually found safe at home…
