Monroe, MI – Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, in partnership with the Monroe Information Technology Department, would like to inform citizens of ongoing email-based scams being sent across the State of Michigan. Scammers are using publicly available official documents, such as agendas and minutes, to create sophisticated phishing campaigns in localized regions.
These emails may be formatted similar to official correspondence and include names and phone numbers of legitimate government employees. The scammers’ goal is to appear legitimate and trick receivers of the email to send them money.
Sheriff Goodnough would like to inform all Monroe residents and those doing business with Monroe County that all official correspondence will come from the official email domains listed below. If you receive an email that you are unsure of claiming to be from Monroe County, please double-check that the sender is emailing from an email address ending in a legitimate domain. Monroe County will never use email domains outside of those outlined below. If the email is deemed a scam, mark the email as spam and delete it. Never correspond with a scammer as this is a sure way to receive more scams in the future…
