110 animals recovering after being seized from veterinarian’s property in Clyde

CLYDE, Ohio — A local veterinarian is under investigation, indicted for animal cruelty while an animal rescue nonprofit is assisting authorities in caring for 110 animals seized from her property.

The animals were removed during the execution of a search warrant Tuesday by the Sandusky County Animal Cruelty Division at the residence owned by Dr. Laura Hirt, the veterinarian. The location, at 3320 County Road 175 in Clyde, is also known as Another Chance Sanctuary, the division said.

Dogs, cats, goats, alpacas, donkeys, guinea pigs, rabbits, exotic birds, and a pig were found living in “overcrowded, unsanitary conditions consistent with large-scale neglect,” said Kirsten Peek, media relations manager at Humane World for Animals, who was at the scene.
