Eggs hit lowest price since August

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Egg prices are finally dropping after months of soaring costs driven by the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) that hit poultry farms in Ohio and a number of other states.

The website Tracking Economics, which uses government data to update prices daily, listed the wholesale price of eggs at $3 on Friday, up about 80-cents from the previous week, but down 63% from the all-time high of $8.17 on March 3.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins said last week that the administration plans to increase imports of eggs from Turkey and South Korea. The administration already doubled the number of eggs imported from Brazil, which are used in processed foods and pet food, freeing up the supply of domestic eggs for consumers…
