Crews were working to restore power to 307,000 Michigan customers during the closing hours of Sunday, March 30, the end of a weekend that saw the state battered by severe weather.
As of 9:30 p.m., online outage maps showed Consumers Energy reported 195,000 customers were impacted by outages across the state, Great Lakes Energy reported 45,000 outages along western Michigan, DTE reported 35,000 outages along eastern Michigan, and Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op reported 32,000 outages in the northeast corner of the state’s lower peninsula.
“This storm is unlike anything we have experienced,” Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op President Allan Berg said in a statement. “While we diligently prepare for any weather event, this event is extreme. It only takes a quarter of an inch of ice to cause damage, and we have areas with over half an inch of ice or more.”…
