Downtown Toledo bar to host celebration of life fundraiser for young man killed in April

TOLEDO, Ohio — On Saturday, the Whiskey Red Saloon is hosting a celebration of life and fundraiser from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. for Joaquin Simmons and his family. Saloon owner Jeff Jones is a friend of the Simmons family and said he just wanted to make sure the community doesn’t forget about Joaquin and comes out to support the family after the 18-year-old’s sudden, preventable tragic death.

WTOL 11 spoke with Toledo police and learned that Simmons was attempting to purchase shoes from a 16 year old Maumee boy when a group attempted to rob him and then fled.

Simmons tried to stop them by holding onto the vehicle and was dragged for several blocks. He died a few days later from his injuries…
