This past Monday, we told you about the tragic accident at the Dundee Engine Plant that claimed the life of a United Auto Worker (UAW). Now, we are learning more details about the situation—and about the man who tragically lost his life while helping prepare the facility for future production.
Ronnie Adams, a 62-year-old skilled tradesman and Detroit resident, was working overnight on the assembly line when he was crushed by a mechanical arm that pinned him against a conveyor. The accident happened around 1:25 a.m. at the Stellantis Dundee Engine Plant in Dundee, Michigan. First responders quickly arrived, and Adams was rushed to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident involved a machine malfunction during ongoing retooling operations. Adams was part of a small crew working to modernize the plant for a $150 million overhaul to launch Stellantis’ new family of engines and battery trays for hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs).
Adams brought decades of technical experience to the job. Before joining Stellantis, he had worked as an aircraft mechanic for Delta and Northwest Airlines. According to various sources, he was respected among his peers for his precision, leadership, and professionalism.
