Man accused of attempted shooting inside downtown Toledo restaurant indicted

TOLEDO, Ohio — A man accused of walking into a downtown Toledo restaurant and attempting to shoot someone was indicted Monday by a Lucas County grand jury.

Matthew Exton, 42, was indicted on one count of attempted murder, a felony of the first degree, and three counts of felonious assault, all second-degree felonies. All charges also have firearm specifications.

According to Toledo police affidavits, Exton walked into 139 South Huron Street on April 11 just before 6 p.m. with a loaded firearm, pointed it at the victim and attempted to fire the weapon. Police say the gun “failed to discharge as the weapon appeared to still have a safety on.”…
