Move over Bradford pear, Ohio is banning a new invasive plant. Meet the common privet

Stand aside, Bradford pear . There’s a new invasive plant in town and Ohio is targeting it.

On Jan. 1, 2026, the common privet will join the callery pear, better known as the Bradford pear, and more than 60 other plants on the state’s list of invasive plants .
