The city of Toledo is preparing to plant the first round of trees through its federally funded RE-TREE program, with West Toledo neighborhoods seeing greenery first.
Sara Stacy, the city’s urban beautification commissioner, spoke to a crowd of about 20 people at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library on Monday night.
About 900 street trees will be planted this spring in census tracts four, six, and seven, which include the Asbury Park, Willys Park, and DeVilbiss neighborhoods, she said. This fall, the city is planting in the LaGrange, Vistula, and East Toledo neighborhoods. In 2026, the Junction, Inglewood, Sherman, and Old Towne neighborhoods will get trees.
