The smoke is still clearing in Maumee after the city shut down a “burnout” event during the weekend at the Lucas County Fairgrounds.
At Monday’s city council meeting, Mayor Jim MacDonald said the N.W.O. Showdown was originally presented as a “standard car-truck show,” and a permit was issued on that understanding.
Mayor MacDonald said the organizer, Austin Ferrell, then started advertising the event as a “burnout,” where a truck or car stays in place and the driver spins the wheels, causing the tires to heat up and smoke. The fairgrounds is zoned residential, and this type of event is not allowed, he said…
