TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – It’s a journey the Bates family never expected to take. In 2024, just before his first birthday, Brody Bates caught a respiratory virus. Brody had complications and was admitted to the ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital.
“Started off as like a cold and just kept getting worse,” said Brody’s mother, Alexa Bates. “He was diagnosed with Human metapneumovirus, and for adults, it just presents as a cold, but for kiddos, it can cause RSV, pneumonia.”
The hospital is a place Alexa knows all too well. She works for the ProMedica Foundation, and suddenly found her family receiving the care she promotes for others…
