Energy Department cancels millions in federal award money for Libbey Glass

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Millions in federal award funding for Toledo-based Libbey Glass has been canceled.

The U.S. Department of Energy announced it is terminating project awards under the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations, which included more than $45 million for Libbey Glass the company will no longer receive.

The project funding announced in April 2024 was part of a sustainability effort to retrofit the plant with new furnace technology to reduce CO2 emissions and create jobs, according to a previous statement from Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur’s office…
