State awards $60M to redevelop hazardous, blighted industrial sites – including in Lucas County

TOLEDO, Ohio — Nearly $60 million in grants were awarded to more than 43 projects across the state of Ohio, with the intention of clearing up and redeveloping hazardous “brownfield” sites, including in northwest Ohio.

According to a press release, the Department of Development awarded funding to the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program, which aims to improve, clean up and redevelop blighted commercial locations across the state. Brownfield sites are typically abandoned industrial sites that are impacted by environmental contamination.
