OHIO, USA — Aerial treatments targeting spongy moth populations are scheduled to begin the week of June 23 in five Ohio counties, the Ohio Department of Agriculture announced.
The treatments, which are weather-dependent, are scheduled to take place in Hancock, Sandusky, Wood, Guernsey and Knox counties. They aim to slow the spread of the invasive spongy moth, formerly known as the gypsy moth.
ODA said applications will be made by low-flying yellow aircraft that operate about 100 feet above tree canopies. The aircraft will disperse SPLAT GM-O, a product that prevents male moths from locating females by releasing a pheromone that confuses their mating behavior. The treatment is a single application…
