Police fired 73 shots, killing man who fired at officers in East Toledo

Police officers fired 73 times at a 39-year-old man after he pulled a gun on them Monday, footage released by Toledo police shows.

Police responded around 8:30 p.m. to a 911 call reporting that a man fired toward a person walking down the sidewalk near East Broadway and Madeline streets in East Toledo. When officers arrived, they found a man who matched the suspect’s description, later identified to be Terrell Carter, Jr.

Still frames from the patrol car’s dash cameras show Carter reaching into his pants for a gun as police arrived at the scene. Officers began yelling “drop the gun” while opening the doors of the patrol car as Carter fled, tripping over an electric scooter before firing a shot toward officers…
