TOLEDO, Ohio — Some of the most high-risk individuals in Lucas County aren’t held in solitary confinement or maximum security — they’re in the jail’s mental health wing, where staff work under constant pressure to care for inmates experiencing extreme psychological distress.
Corrections officers like Christian Hartford face a unique challenge inside this unit.
