MONROE COUNTY, Mich — The attorney who represents the Monroe County Board of Commissioners has filed for a declaratory judgment and subsequent restraining order against Mark Brant, a former commissioner.
Brant was removed from the District 2 seat earlier this year after he was deemed legally ineligible to serve in the position. Brant was serving time in prison after being convicted of federal drug trafficking charges.
According to court documents obtained by WTOL 11, the county’s attorney Phil Goldsmith filed a pleading with the Monroe County Circuit Court. The pleading urges judges to make a declaratory judgment, or formal opinion, on whether or not Brant became an ineligible elector when he began his prison sentence.
