Toledo police, city council discuss law enforcement presence in West Toledo

The presence of a building versus that of police officers was the unanswered question, as Toledo City Council grappled with the fate of a Toledo Police Department substation in West Toledo Tuesday.

Julie Buchele, a West Toledo resident, encouraged the council’s public safety and criminal justice reform committee to maintain a strong police presence in the area, despite plans to vacate the D. Michael Collins Northwest Neighborhood Station.

“Physical presence can deter violence,” Ms. Buchele said. “Whether you’re riding through the neighborhood or you are visibly present in the neighborhood at schools and the libraries, physical presence can deter a lot of problems.”…
