High-speed chase, standoff ends in Kansas man’s death in Henry County

NAPOLEON — A high-speed pursuit and four-hour standoff ended early Wednesday when a suspect shot and killed himself in front of police, Napoleon Police Chief Edward W. Legg said in a news release.

Bryan Freed, 38, whose last address was on Wreath Avenue in Manhattan, Kan., reached speeds of more than 100 mph while being pursued on a traffic stop by deputies from Wood County, the chief said.
