Bowsher High School tests new TPS cell phone lock-up policy

TOLEDO, Ohio — Bowsher High School Principal Cori Boos is leading the rollout of Toledo Public Schools’ new districtwide cell phone policy, which requires students to lock up their devices during the school day.

The policy, now in effect at Bowsher, Rogers, Scott, Start, Waite and Woodward high schools, uses a device called a Yondr pouch. The pouch locks with a magnet, keeping phones secured while students are in designated zones of the school.

“We have a lot of adjustments to make and that’s why we did the practice run to see what it looks like, what the timing is,” Boos said. “I really hope they learn how to interact positively (and that) they enjoy coming to school, they’re active in class, their grades improve and the teacher-student relationship improves.”…
